(Phnom Penh) – A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia, calling for intervention in a case against Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman, who is accused of serious financial misconduct. The investor alleges that Yamada, a Japanese national, abused his position, causing substantial financial losses and undermining shareholder rights.

The complaint claims that Yamada manipulated the prices of multiple real estate purchases, allegedly misappropriating around USD 4 million for his personal benefit and that of his associates. In addition, he is accused of orchestrating fictitious transactions and loan arrangements exceeding USD 7 million, using the names of reputable companies to deceive investors and conceal the true nature of the deals.

Further allegations suggest that Yamada created a network of shell companies across Cambodia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, appointing nominees to act as company representatives while maintaining full control over all financial transactions. Part of the misappropriated funds is reportedly transferred overseas, including to a bank account in the name of his wife.

In Cambodia, Yamada and his accomplices face at least two ongoing criminal cases, with several bank accounts and assets frozen by court orders. Investigations are also reportedly underway in other countries, including Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United States, focusing on potential embezzlement, document forgery, and money laundering.

The shareholder urges Cambodian authorities and courts to conduct thorough investigations, uphold justice, and prevent any undue influence that could allow the accused to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or compromise evidence. The letters highlight concerns about possible interference by influential figures in favor of Yamada, stressing the need for impartial legal oversight.
